Injuries and Mayhem

Took a spill on the ice in my driveway and landed on the shoulder where I tore the rotator cuff two months ago.  This has seriously impacted my painting schedule since simple tasks like holding a brush hurt like hell.  Despite that I managed to finally finish the Dev squad, only the Assault Squad to go to have a fully painted battle company.  In all honesty, it won’t happen this year.  I started two of the marines, but I really need to focus on a few other things.  For one, I am adding some more buildings and industrial scenery to my game table.  The table is going to my LGS for a tournament on the 21st.  For two, I am pretty excited about my Necrons and am working to add a unit of Deathmarks, a FW Bomber, and the Tesserect Vault to the army.  I’ve started working on all three Necron projects.  Plus, I need to rebase the Wraiths, of which only one is all the way painted, and I’d like to build some reanimation protocol markers.  Plus much more.

The mayhem will commence on Jan 11th when the Tyranids get their new book.  I will be revamping the points for that army then.  Once I do that I’ll see what I want to add and get that army back up over 20,000 points.  My other goals for next year are to finish that battle company (easy enough) and add a whole bunch of vehicles to that army, since I have plenty of infantry.  I’ll also make some headway into the 1st company.

Pictures of the Dev squad will be up next week.

An Update

So, just got my hands on the new Space Marine codex and I am very happy so far.  My Storm of Wrath chapter are looking to be a successor to the Imperial Fists.  What’s funny is that it explains my use of the yellow on the armor and heraldry, and that in the fluff there is an Imperial Fist battle barge called the Storm of Wrath.  It’s like they wrote that in for me.  I need to revamp my list for the new point cost of models.  I am holding off on doing the same to my Tyranids until their new codex, which is rumored to be before the end of the year still.

I made a decision to thin my collection out a bit lately.  I am down to “only” having four 40K armies now: Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Tyranids, and Necrons.  For Fantasy I only have the Ogres that I am working on.  I may add some other Space Marine chapters to my forces, Black Templars and Minotaurs being the prime candidates at the moment.  I still have large swathes of Storm of Wrath marines to paint in the meanwhile.

In the meantime, I have actually finished my first 10 man squad of Terminators and been working on some Ogres.  I am painting the 6th Tactical Squad (technically squad 3, but the last of the six I need) for my Battle Company.  To finish the company I need to finish that squad, a command squad, an assault squad, a devestator squad, and a dreadnaught.  Which all sounds like a lot until you consider I’ve already painted 50 tactical marines, 10 assault marines, 10 devs, two characters, and two dreads.  I’ll get some photos up soon.

Points Juggling

Well, not as finished as I thought.  The new Apocalypse book changed the point costs of several models, upping my Imperial points, but dropping almost 1,000 points off my Tyranids… ouch!  I am not going to add any Nids for the time being, focused on my Necrons and Ogres right now.  I will start adding some Marines soon though, pretty exciting about Apocalypse.

Projects Galore

Well, I think I am finally starting to recover from finishing the Tyranids.  Apocalypse is right around the corner, and it has got me really excited for my Space Marines again.  In addition, I picked up some pieces to start Minotaurs, but I am kind of waiting until the new marine book comes out before I decide exactly how I want to set them up.  Some of the vehicles I have for my Storm of Wrath marines may get appropriated for the Minotaurs instead.

My Necrons are coming along.  I almost have my original 1,500 point list all painted.  I have to finish 8 more Immortals, 2 Wraiths, and an Overlord on foot (in case his Barge dies).  I’ve painted up a pair of Heavy Destroyers and a Cryptek for the army, and added a custom built C’tan, two more Crypteks, six Acanthrites, and two Tesseract Arks.  I plan on washing the mould release off the Forge World bits today and I’ll start prepping them.  I’d like to add a pair of the new Sentry Pylons, a Canoptek Tomb Sentinel, and the board tile that Forge World makes.  Also, I will be getting 2-3 of the new Vault/Obelisks with the Apoc release.  My Necrons will be going Apocalypse scale.

I thinned out my side projects recently as well.  Traded off the Dark Eldar I had painted for a refurbished laptop.  Talked myself down from starting Tau as well.  That leaves me with Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Chaos Marines, Chaos Daemons, Tyranids, Necrons, Orcs, and Eldar for 40K.  My Tyranids and Chaos Marines are done, and I only have two vehicles to add to the Guard, for variety sake.  The Eldar and Orks aren’t really started, but I have the models for them.   I have a squad and an HQ painted for my Daemons, and they are quick to paint, just not motivated for them despite the fact that I own everything to build to 1,500 points, with a few Chaos Marine allies.  I’ve tried out two color schemes for the Eldar, and rejected both.  Think I’m going to go Ulthwe Craftworld instead of making one up.

Managed to sell off two Fantasy armies last month, my Orcs and Goblins and Chaos Daemons.  This now means I do not have a painted Fantasy army, which is a first in many years for me.  Fortunately, my local game store is starting a 5 month painting oath to paint up 2,500 points for Fantasy.  I started an Ogre Kingdoms army for this purpose, but am really hoping to get it down in 2-3 months.  I also have High Elves, Skaven, and a new Orc and Goblin project.  I will probably tackle them in reverse order that I just listed them.  The High Elves are really complicated to paint, but look great.  The Orcs should paint super fast.  The Skaven, well… I just have so many of them that it is a daunting project to look at.

Decided to sell off all my Warmachine/Hordes stuff.  I prefer larger games to the small Skirmish nature of Warma-hordes.  I think it is a good game with great looking models, just not my cup of tea.  Also, metal models are a turn off for me these days.  I vastly prefer resin or plastic.

Anyhow, that is the state of the nation here.  Currently working primarily on Necrons and Ogres, with the occasional Space Marine thrown in.  With Apoc coming and Marines rumored to get a new Codex soon, I’m sure they will be prioritized again soon.

Tyranids are FINISHED!

Finished painting the Hierophant, the last model for the Tyranid army. Took all week to do, hope to have photos up soon.

Going to take another brief break to finish up my Necrons next. I am kind of avoiding my marines, since there is rumor of a new codex in a few months. I may still get a few models knocked out though. My Necrons have really captured my attention lately though, and I just ordered two Tesserack Arks to beef them up. I don’t play the stupid all flyer list, I like a bit more balance, but the fluff and imagery of the army really calls to me. I just kit bashed my own C’tan model as well. Photos to come.

Progress!

Finished the Scythed Hierodule, which adds 600 points to the Tyranids.  Only one model left for them, the Hierophant, and my goal of 20,000 points of painted Tyranids will be done.

I’ve been side tracked a lot lately.  Games Workshop just keeps putting out amazing models, and I want a small force for almost every unique army in 40K.  I also have been looking at Fantasy more lately, plus I have a few consignment projects I need to finish up.  I really love trying out new color schemes, conversions, and projects.  I just am unreliable at finishing them.  I am hoping to fix that with my Necrons soon.  They might just be the new side project before diving back into Marines.  I only have 20 Immortals, 2 Barges, 3 Wraiths and an Overlord to paint, at the moment.  Then I’ll have a fully painted 1500 point list that I can mess around with and decide if I want to add more.  I also started painting some Tau and Dark Eldar recently, and have plans for normal Eldar if the rumor-mill is correct and they are next.  I plan on doing a massive photo dump here on Thursday.

Has it been a week already?

Been a busy week, but not much forward momentum here.  Wednesday was spent working on a new gaming table that is still months from completion.  The winged tyrant is built and primed, and I should be able to start on him tonight.  I messed around with airbrushing power weapon, and re-painted the blades on three finished marine models.  When I get done touching them up I’ll post pics.  Today is a day for painting.  I have consignment work to finish up, a Necron Scythe to do, power weapons to touch up, and a tyrant to start.  Best to get started I suppose…

Update

Nothing new on the 40K of 40K front.  I did manage to make some serious progress on my Necrons though, finishing two fliers, bringing me up to three total.  I do the bases for that army separately as well, and am almost done with all the bases.  I also finished a Cryx Iron Lich Overseer.  Oh, and a bunch of commission work.  Busy week.

I also got to try my Daemons out in 40K.  More on that later.
